Big Kindle News – 5 New Kindles Available Today!

Posted: 18 Sep 2014 08:36 AM PDT

Amazon has just released some major news regarding 5 new Kindle devices that are available for pre-order today and will be shipped in plenty of time for Christmas and the holiday season.

All of the new Kindles will be shipped in October (view the devices below for the exact date of release). Orders are always shipped on a first come, first served basis so if you’re interested in one of the new models make sure to grab it today. Here’s the information that you’ll need on the all new line-up of Kindles.

From Amazon:

Kindle Voyage

Starting at $199

Release date is October 21, 2014

All-New Design–The Thinnest Kindle Ever

Kindle Voyage features an all-new design, with a beautiful flush glass front and a magnesium back, so it is strong, thin, and light. At just 7.6 mm thin and weighing less than 6.4 ounces, Kindle Voyage is the thinnest device we’ve ever built, making it even easier to hold with one hand and read for hours.

Next Generation Paperwhite Display

Kindle Voyage uses a brand new Paperwhite display, with the highest resolution, highest contrast, and highest brightness of any Kindle. With 300 pixels per inch, the new Paperwhite display delivers laser-quality text and images. The exclusive flush-front display stack uses specially strengthened glass, which is designed to resist scratches. Since regular glass would create glare, the cover glass on Kindle Voyage is micro-etched in order to diffuse light, ensuring you can read easily in bright light without glare. The etching pattern on the glass also serves to match the feel of paper.

Adaptive Front Light–Our Smartest Front Light

In addition to being our brightest front light ever–39% brighter–the new adaptive front light automatically adjusts the brightness of the display based on the surrounding light. And because not everyone has the same lighting preferences, the adaptive front light can be fine-tuned to your personal preference. Also, since the human eye adjusts to darkness over time, the light you need when you start reading in the dark will seem too bright 30 minutes later–the adaptive front light slowly lowers the display’s brightness over time to match the way the eye responds to darkness.

PagePress–Reimagined Page Turns

Kindle Voyage introduces PagePress, a new way to turn pages. PagePress uses a custom-designed force sensor that sits directly under the bezel. You simply rest your thumb on the bezel and turn the page by lightly pressing. When you turn the page, Kindle Voyage delivers tactile feedback from a haptic actuator. The actuator delivers just enough vibration to let you know you turned the page, but is subtle enough that you won’t be distracted from your reading. You can personalize both the pressure level needed to trigger a page turn and the haptic feedback level.

Free 3G

Kindle Voyage is available with free 3G, which means you never have to hunt for or pay for a Wi-Fi hotspot–simply download and read books anytime, anywhere, in over 100 countries around the world. Amazon pays for the 3G connection, so you pay no monthly fees and sign no annual contracts.

New Origami Cover

The new origami-style cover design is inspired by the best-selling Origami covers for Fire tablets, and provides a stand for both portrait and landscape positions. Origami covers attach magnetically so they are easy to take on and off, and automatically turn your Kindle Voyage on and off when you open and close the cover. The cover is available starting at $44.99–learn more here.

    Fire HD Kids Edition Tablet

    Starting at $149

Release date is October 21, 2014

Amazon today introduced Fire HD Kids Edition, the first tablet built from the ground up for kids (and their parents). Fire HD Kids Edition is built around three ideas:

    1. Despite best intentions, kids break things—Fire HD Kids Edition has an unprecedented 2-year worry-free guarantee—if they break it, we'll replace it. No questions asked.

    2. Parents don't want to worry about the bill—the Kids Edition includes a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited so kids get unlimited access to 5,000 books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games—at no additional cost.

    3. Kids want a real tablet, not a toy—the Kids Edition features a quad-core processor, a vivid HD display, front- and rear-facing cameras, Dolby Digital audio, and access to Amazon's unmatched content ecosystem of over 33 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and Android apps and games.

Fire HD Kids Edition is $149 for a 6" tablet and $189 for a 7", and is available for pre-order today at here.

"Fire HD Kids Edition is a real tablet, not a toy," said Peter Larsen, Vice President, Amazon Devices. "Kids break things, so we added a 2-year, no-questions-asked, worry-free guarantee. Plus, you'll never be surprised by a bill—it comes with a year of FreeTime Unlimited, which includes over 5,000 books, movies, TV episodes, educational apps, and games at no additional cost."

Fire HD Kids Edition comes with Amazon FreeTime, which offers innovative parental controls that encourage learning before play and that help manage screen time. With FreeTime, you select all of the content your kids can see, and you can limit your kids' screen time by content type—for example, you may choose to limit videos and games, but make reading time unlimited. FreeTime blocks stores and in-app payments, so you don't have to worry about additional expenses.

Fire HD Kids Edition includes a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, the first-ever all-in-one subscription that brings together all the content that kids and parents love—books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games. FreeTime Unlimited has the content kids want, including characters like Harry Potter, Lightning McQueen, Dora the Explorer, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Curious George. Plain and timid, debutante Pamela Burke-Smythe is a wallflower at the high society Boston balls she attends, overlooked by possible suitors. One-by-one, her friends become engaged, and Pamela resigns herself as to life as a spinster.

When rancher John Carter becomes guardian to his orphaned godson, Nick, nothing he does seems to help the grieving, angry boy.

At his wit's end, he believes that a wife might help draw Nick out, and lonely himself, John's been thinking along the matrimonial lines for a while anyway. But small Sweetwater Springs, Montana, has no suitable candidates.

He decides to visit his great-aunt Hester in Boston and bring back a wife who is kind and compassionate, can be a mother figure to Nick, and who can adapt to the hard life on the ranch.

Hester plays matchmaker for John, introducing him to Pamela. John responds to Pamela's kind heart and believes he's found the ideal woman.

But Pamela never thought to marry a stranger and leave Boston, and her family and friends are against the idea. She musters all her meager courage to defy her loved ones and seize her only chance at marriage.

After a whirlwind courtship, the couple marries and travels west. Pamela discovers a run-down ranch house, a bunch of unruly cowboys, a sullen boy, and a different way of life. Can their new marriage survive the challenge?

“The story is set in the late 18th century against the background of the French Revolution. Although Dickens borrowed from Thomas Carlyle’s history, The French Revolution, for his sprawling tale of London and revolutionary Paris, the novel offers more drama than accuracy. The scenes of large-scale mob violence are especially vivid, if superficial in historical understanding. The complex plot involves Sydney Carton’s sacrifice of his own life on behalf of his friends Charles Darnay and Lucie Manette.

While political events drive the story, Dickens takes a decidedly antipolitical tone, lambasting both aristocratic tyranny and revolutionary excess–the latter memorably caricatured in Madame Defarge, who knits beside the guillotine. The book is perhaps best known for its opening lines, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” and for Carton’s last speech, in which he says of his replacing Darnay in a prison cell, “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.”

One of the most significant numbers in the Bible is the number 40. Many of the most well known Biblical events can be connected with the number 40. Moses stayed on the mountain with God for 40 days. After Noah built the Ark, it rained for 40 days and nights. The Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years. Goliath challenged the Israelites for 40 days. David and Solomon both reigned over Israel for 40 years.

Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days. Each time the number 40 appears, God does something huge. In 2012, God began to speak to my wife Barbara and I about major changes coming for our ministry, Dallas Metro Dream Center. We knew that in order for us to prepare for these changes, we needed to become the people that God wanted us to become. Our whole staff and board members read the book, The Circle Maker, by Mark Batterson. This book reminded us of a principle that we have based our entire ministry on- bold prayers changes things.

Quickly after reading the book, we decided to commit to 40 days of prayer. Every morning, I sent out an e-mail devotion to set the tone for prayer for that day. Each day people began to hear about the 40 days of prayer and asked to be added to the list, and our prayer circle continues to grow. It was an incredible 40 days that made a huge difference in the lives of everyone involved.

“If you like superhero movies and reading, then this book is like a heaven-sent gift. Even if you’re not a huge fan of superheroes, give this book a try because it’s probably unlike anything you have read.”

A technology unleashes a genocide upon a race of gods.

Two lost warriors are willing to die for their divided beliefs.

And a lone young woman will decide the fate of two worlds.

Above a horrified New York City, genetics and ethics collide as the fallen emperor and a banished exile of the same herculean race ignite into battle over the city’s rooftops.

In the streets below, a brilliant young scientist has discovered a technology that can defeat them both, yet might be more terrible than either.

Set both in modern New York City and in the technologically sophisticated yet politically savage world of Anthem, Anthem’s Fall unfurls into a plot where larger than life characters born with the prowess of gods are pitted against the shrewd brilliance of a familiar and unlikely heroine.

The young emperor Vengelis Epsilon narrowly escapes the reckoning of his empire at the hands of strange machines known as Felixes. The Felixes are identical in every respect to the godlike men of Vengelis’s world save for their mechanical blue eyes.

Feared to be indestructible, the wanton holocaust of the Felix appears inescapable.

His family murdered and his empire maimed under a shadow of destruction, Vengelis pursues the pained final words of his dying mentor, and sets course for a remote and unchartered world–our world.

The son of the man who created the Felixes, Gravitas Nerol has spent four years in lonely exile. His crime?

When the Lord General of the Epsilon Army ordered the genocide of a vastly inferior race, Gravitas refused him. A warrior to his marrow, Gravitas has cast aside his former life and committed himself to the pursuit of knowledge.

Kristen Jordan is a young and talented graduate student working on a cutting edge research team. Their wildly inventive new biotechnology, the Vatruvian cell, is the celebrated milestone of modern science.

Yet Kristen remains uneasy about the capabilities of the inexplicable Vatruvian cell, and as their project develops, it begins to ring oddly familiar to the perilous technology of Vengelis’s home.

Next thing you know the survivors – thieves and revelers alike – find themselves marooned together.

As the LaRue gang plans its watery escape, raffish lawyer Tubby Dubonnet is obliged to take time out from his customary eating and loafing to thwart their murderous intentions.

Three weeks ago I walked in while my parents were being murdered. I escaped, but I need to put my life back together again. There’s just one problem – I don’t know where to begin.

My parents weren’t who I thought they were.
My best friend isn’t who I thought he was.
The killer isn’t who I thought he was.
And scariest of all, I’m not who I thought I was.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

A well-plotted, well-polished indie book is a rare find these days, since Amazon and others make it so easy for ANYONE to publish any old piece of garbage. Fran’s characters are real, and their problems are engrossing. Written specifically for the YA market, this book will appeal to a wide range of ages, even the old folks like me.

Well written and very enjoyable. There are a lot of surprises in the book that make you want to keep reading. Exciting from beginning to end. Highly recommended.

The premise is great and there were so many twists I just didn’t see coming. One time I think I predicted something, but then she just threw in another twist I just completely didn’t see coming! Cannot wait for the next book!

Well written YA Paranormal novel that keeps you literally perched on the edge of your seat! Enjoyed it so much that I was gutted, and cried, when I got to the last page… can’t wait to read the rest, Ms. Veal!

When I came to the end of the last page I screamed in frustration that it had ended there. Thankfully I was reading an e-book. If it had been a paperback I would have pitched it across the room in frustration. Yes, I will be awaiting the next book.

    About The Author

Fran Veal fell in love with stories when her fourth grade teacher, Peggy Greer read stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to her class every afternoon after lunch. Her first attempt at writing stories was in the fifth grade when she began writing and drawing a cartoon for her friends. She graduated to writing Romance in the 9th grade and has been creating stories ever since.

It wasn’t until Fran had a teen daughter of her own that she actually began thinking about publishing her work. Finding My Escape was her debut novel. The sequel, Finding My Way Back was released in August 2013, and the third installment, Finding My Way home is scheduled to be released in 2014.

Fran currently resides in the beautiful city of Murfreesboro, TN with her husband of twenty-eight years, sixteen year old daughter, and one extremely snarky cat.

Thank you for considering today’s Book Of The Day – Fran Veal and ENT appreciate it.

70-something Oreny "Big" Johnson has a problem. Actually, he has two. Or maybe three.

The first is that he'll be dead from cancer, less than a year, which doesn't particularly concern him: "The things I've been through, dying is just one more page in a long bad book." But spending his last living days, taking his last living breath, behind steel bars does.

That's the second problem: Inmate number 78903 in the notorious level-four Washington State prison known as Horseneck Bay.

    Then there's the money.

Two million dollars of stolen military payroll, supposedly buried in some remote and mysterious south-Texas mountain range called Los Despoblados, or The Uninhabited, which sounds to Oreny like one of those places his mama Maybell always told him to avoid.

But he'll worry about that later. He has to get there first. Problem number three.

That's when he brings those two smoldering dynamite sticks he's attached himself to—his Luke-boy and Jaime—on board to help his tired old body break out of Horseneck and go dig up that money and then hightail it across the border into Mexico.

And when they do break out, and Luke decides to bring his girlfriend Lauren along, and her enraged ex comes after them, and then the manhunt starts multiplying faster around them than those cancer cells inside him, Oreny still thinks he can control them.

The problems, that is. At least, until Cade arrives.

Cade, the prison investigator Oreny knows is dangerous and unpredictable as a six-foot-two wolverine on eight gallons of adrenalin gone bad. And who won't stop until he catches them and does to them what Cade does best.

Cade, Oreny knows better than anything else, is their biggest problem of all.
