Whispered by the wise and the learned.

Talked of in hushed tones round luminous firesides. Engraved by awestruck scribes in the scriptoria of the Chronicles.

Against all the odds, great King Alfred defeated a vastly superior Danish army outside Chippenham.

This victory, the sages prophesied, would guarantee peace throughout the land. Or so they thought.

Two years later, Rigr the Bastard, vengeful and seeking to claim his birthright, was defeated in the wilds of East Anglia.

His blood smeared berserker warriors vanquished; no quarter asked for – no quarter given.

Now, a further two years later, the Vikings return.

Noble Prince Sven instigates a seaborne invasion, fuelled partly by blind rage when he discovers that his brother, Prince Erik, has sworn fealty to the Anglo-Saxon king.

His own brother: A traitor and a fool.

Erik's love, Lady Gwyneth, attempts to stop the invasion before it starts by uniting the two estranged brothers, but her scheming only succeeds in making matters worse.

Indeed, her interference guarantees the death of thousands of warriors in the freezing, tumultuous North Sea.

So when the horns of Sven's monumental fleet of warships are heard off the fogbound coast of Britannia, King Alfred – outnumbered, outshipped and weary of the fray – must rouse his jaded Saxon warriors and lead them to sea, to repel his most formidable enemy yet.

For a host motivated by the spilled blood of the fallen, the spirit of black vengeance, and the delights of a warrior's reward in Valhalla, is the most fearsome opponent of all.

Alfred. Sven. Erik. Gwyneth. Amidst the ferrous reverberation of a battle royale – one or all must die, and the fate of a nation hangs in the balance, one final time.

This historical thriller begins on the eve of WWII in the Philippines.

Katarina Stahl an American Red Cross nurse, is the happiest she's ever been in her life.

She's making love and playing music with Jack Gallagher in an idyllic paradise.

Their medical mission is over, the boat tickets to home are purchased, and all that remains is to fly a sick child to the hospital at Clark Air Field.

She never expected to witness bombs falling out of planes.

In those terrifying first minutes, she frees a German doctor accused of spying and saves his life.

She turns to nursing the injured, unaware she's unleashed an obsession more dangerous to her and those she loves, than the war she's trapped in.

Doctor von Wettin, the man she freed, finds Katarina pregnant and starving in a POW camp after the surrender.

He begs her to nurse his bed-ridden wife. She knows other Americans will despise her, but wants her baby to live after surviving Bataan.

Their uneasy alliance is destroyed when she discovers he exploited Red Cross diplomatic channels and contacts at the German embassy to wire money to her parents.

His benevolent mask slips when he informs her that her brothers and parents are interned on Ellis Island.

When the Stahl family is swept up in the FBI's dragnet, Josep Stahl believes it's all a misunderstanding.

He's interrogated like a criminal at the city jail, a military camp, Ellis Island, and then the civilian internment camps in Texas.

His anger and pride blind him. One by one in this painful family drama, his wife and sons join him behind barbed wire in.

There they face ostracism, segregation, and, most frightening, repatriation.

Katarina begins an even more terrifying journey into depraved darkness as Manila descends into occupation and chaos.

The doctor threatens everyone she loves- infant son, POW husband, and Filipino friends.

She'll do anything to protect them- she lies, steals, and smuggles.

As the war turns against the Japanese, they withhold the doctor's wife's life-saving medications until he finds a hidden radio inside the civilian internment camp.

If Katarina refuses to help him, her son pays the price.

Survival has corrupted Katarina, but she's not about to become his camp rat.

After years of hell, she's earned her nickname, war nurse. Doctor von Wettin is about to find out what that means.

In short, it’s a wonderful thriller that takes you on a delightful ride full of graphic imagery and amazing humor! Pirog has a gift for blending the two! Thank you, Nick, for your offering. I look forward to your next book!

Just when you think you’ve figured it out. Bam! Another twist. It’s all in the details. So great. You know the phrase peeling the onion…every layer is more intriguing then the last.

Nick Pirog’s stories are entertaining on so many levels. They go from light-hearted to somber in just a few words, all the while remaining suspenseful and humorous. Read Nick’s books then tell your friends!!

I loved this book! It is my favorite kind of book to read, the kind that allows you to forget that you are reading a book! Pirog’s voice is natural and easy, funny, wry, and soulful.

What a great new discovery! I’m loving Nick Pirog and his smart-ass protagonist, Thomas Prescott. I first read Unforeseen, and then immediately ordered Gray Matter. I don’t know how much time lapsed between the books, but the author has gotten even better.

Am I Thomas Prescott? No. Though we do have the same sense of humor. I am more like Maddy Young.
What am I working on next? I’m writing two more 3 a.m. adventures with Henry Bins then I’m gonna get cracking on Thomas Prescott #4, Walking in Memphis. (Thomas goes to Memphis to re-investigate the assassination of MLK. Gonna be epic.) Look for it sometime in 2015.
This has been “Things people want to know about me” with Nick Pirog.

First, I had to remember how to breathe. Then, I had to learn how to survive. Two years, three months and sixteen days had passed since I was the Rowe Stanton from before, since tragedy stole my youth and my heart went along with it.

When I left for college, I put a thousand miles between my future and my past. I'd made a choice—I was going to cross back to the other side, to live with the living. I just didn't know how.

And then I met Nate Preeter.

An All-American baseball player, Nate wasn't supposed to notice a ghost-of-a-girl like me. But he did. He shouldn't want to know my name. But he did. And when he learned my secret and saw the scars it left behind, he was supposed to run. But he didn't.

My heart was dead, and I was never supposed to belong to anyone. But Nate Preeter had me feeling, and he made me want to be his. He showed me everything I was missing.

And then he showed me how to fall.

“A very good, well conceived collection of stories.” -Steven S.

The Lauren Tree is about a man who uses sophisticated lies to gain what he wants in life.

But one day, the tangled web he weaves transports him to a world where lying is not permissible, and the consequences of doing so are grave.

Animal Stories consists of three tales that center on the way our modern society treats animals, and the consequences of that behavior.

The first story is about a family who is driving to Yosemite Park and how the attitude of the mother and father toward wildlife alters their trip.

The second story is about the relationship between those who have, and those who have not.

And the third story is about an animal rights organization and how its passionate philosophy toward all creatures great and small, but not human, affects its surroundings.

Fat City deals with the current phenomenon of how people live their lives with regard to diet and exercise, and the consequences of not living as our ancestors once did—laboring hard and earning their daily food.

Steel Maiden is the tale of a college youth who befriends a retired Navy frogman.

One day, the old man relates an incredible story to the youth about one of the most famous disasters in maritime history, and the astonishing discovery he made about it, which was covered up for decades.

The Epiphany of Pain centers on a man who seemingly has it all—comely looks, great health, a wonderful family, and a secure job; however, he is still not satisfied with all that he has, and as he grows restless in search of more pleasures, he experiences a physical pain that soon compels him to hunt for greater Truths.

The Vanishing Point concerns a man who is a famous painter, and his wife, who is merely his subordinate-helper.

He mistreats her and does not appreciate anything she does for him, yet she stays with him. Then, one day, a terrible malady happens to the man, and he must change his ways to keep his wife and his craft, or lose everything.

“Good plot, lots of action and plenty of new ideas as well as an interesting combination of characters.” -David B.

Hard Duty (Book1) – Our last encounter with an alien space fleet saw sixteen-point-two billion people killed when the Merkiaari’s galactic empire declared war, and sparked an alien invasion of humanity’s colony worlds.

Thousands of ships, millions of our finest soldier s and space marine assets, sacrificed themselves in battles that spanned decades in an effort to throw the aliens back.

Captain Jeff Colgan joined the navy looking for action and adventure among the stars, and found it in a life of space exploration and discovery.

His passion for his mission is rivaled only by his sense of responsibility to the Alliance and his crew, but despite the danger of encountering a Merkiaari warship in unexplored space, his duty to investigate a transmission from an unknown source is clear.

His ship made the discovery, his crew’s lives are on the line, and his decisions will decide the outcome. Will the Alliance make new friends or will he be responsible for another sixteen billion deaths?

What Price Honour (Book2) – Our last encounter with aliens saw sixteen-point-two billion people killed by a galactic empire war machine built by the Merkiaari, but with the use of nanotech and by the grace of God, the alien invasion was defeated.

The result of that nanotech? Vipers, a regiment of super soldier s tasked with protecting the Alliance. It was a job they performed with distinction, a job they completed almost two centuries ago, a job that cost them their humanity.

Thurston is an unimportant border world with a problem, a Marine type problem.

Not the sort of place that Gunnery Sergeant Gina Fuentez had expected to find one of the fabled viper cyborgs, but that’s what she discovers when a simple mission to extract an operative from a terrorist camp leads to a firefight and two of her squad dead.

Live a life of action and adventure the recruitment vid had proclaimed, join the space marines, see the galaxy, meet new and interesting people… and kill them, but that last part had been left out.

Now fifteen years on, battle hardened and much wiser, with friends dying around her and a world coming apart at the seams, she must decide if the Marine Corps is just a waypoint to where she really belongs.

Operation Oracle (Book3) – Shima is a Shan hero of great renown, but she cuts a tragic figure living in the ruins of Zuleika.

Blinded at the closing stages Merkiaari’s cleansing of Child of Harmony, her days as a soldier and resistance fighter are long over.

She has survived many great trials. First contact with Humans, the alien invasion of her planet, and almost being incinerated by the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in atmosphere!

Few people could boast such achievements, and she knows her father would have been proud of her, but pride is small consolation when she has to live the rest of her life in darkness.

Meanwhile, deep under The Mountain on Snakeholme, vast computer networks are running simulations, but they’re flawed and General Burgton’s self-imposed mission to safeguard the Alliance is in jeopardy.

Without reliable intelligence, he cannot protect the Alliance from itself, let alone the Merkiaari.

The missions he authorises are blacker than black, so secret that only he and the agents performing them know of their existence, but every operation relies upon his seemingly miraculous fore-knowledge of events, and he’s making mistakes.

Needing a solution, Burgton breaks the Alliance’s artificial intelligence ban and spends trillions of credits on Project Oracle, but when the project fails and desperation sends him looking for an for an answer, he compounds his crime.

If he can’t build an A.I, he’ll just have to steal one!
