“The writing is splendid. You get great character development, and immersion in French culture 101….” – T. Ruby M. American Professor Havilah Gaie has always seen herself as "an academic version of Pam Grier's characters: smart, quick on their feet, loyal with a keen sense of purpose." Now she's got a chance to suit up for action because suddenly she's a witness in a murder, having spoken with the victim on her phone moments before he was attacked. Against the panoramic backdrop of the Cassis cliffs of Provence, France, the beautiful people of poetry–poets, academics, and patrons of the arts–are assembling at a centennial honoring the founder of the Félibrige Foundation. Finding itself with a surplus of talent, the Foundation has awarded one more than its customary dozen fellowships, but even before the gathering can get underway, the unlucky 13th fellow has fetched up dead. But what’s the motive? Professional jealousy? Romantic rivalry? Or something to do with a dark secret about the Félibrige's founder? Havilah's at the center of the mystery, and so is Thierry Gasquet, a dashing French agent who doesn’t care much for amateur detectives. A specialist in several academic disciplines, fluent in several languages, honored for her academic achievements by the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, and equally appreciated for her accomplishments in filling out a bikini, Havilah is shocked by her colleague's murder and determined to ferret out the truth. But she'll have to stay a few steps ahead of Gasquet, who's been as assigned to protect her and avert an international scandal. He's bossy, but he's certainly enjoying keeping her in his sights, which isn’t easy—she moves pretty fast!

Mister Darcy’s Dogs – Kobo Amazon Bestselling Author Jane Austen's beloved characters return in this novella, a contemporary variation on Pride and Prejudice, one of the most popular novels in English literature. This is Book One in the Mister Darcy Series of five books by Barbara Silkstone. Each book can and does stand alone as a separate novella and yet each allows for the relationship between Darcy and Lizzie to unfold in a natural, unhurried way. Doctor Lizzie Bennet, struggling against her conservative English countryside upbringing, determines to prove her worth as a dog psychologist. Nothing will deter her from her career until she meets the uppity and oh-so mysterious Londoner, Mister Darcy. His on-again, off-again flirtatious manner, and his pompous putdowns challenge Lizzie's short temper. When Mister Darcy hires her to train his lovable basset hounds for an important foxhunt, Lizzie accepts the task despite knowing next to nothing about the sport and harboring an intense fear of horses. Two of the villains Austen fans love to boo and hiss arrive to torment Lizzie: Caroline Bingley, in hot pursuit of Mister Darcy does all she can to discredit and humiliate Lizzie. Mister Darcy's old nemesis, George Wickham, stalks the Bennet family. Will Lizzie keep her focus or succumb to her fate? And what, pray tell, is her fate?
Here’s what the reviewers have to say: s a devoted fan of Barbara Silkstone's work, I'm well aware of her sense of humor, great plotting and excellent descriptive writing. If you are looking for a quick read, with great characters, poignant observations on some British traditions, and laugh out loud humor, grab "Mr. Darcy's Dogs" and fall in love with this new Barbara Silkstone series. ******* This is one of my favorite books that I have read recently. I have read and loved Barbara’s other works and she has shifted her genre a bit here and done it well. This is a lovely book with mystery and flirtation, leading to … well, you must read it to find out. ******* It’s a cute story with a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor and dry sarcasm. It’s sort of a Jane Austen meets Monty Python tale. I truly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys British wit. ******* While still paying homage to the famous novel, Mr. Darcy’s Dogs has a story quite its own that totally drew me in. It’s a really fun escape that has me panting for the next one (pun intended)! ******* This is one of Barbara’s best yet. I love her style,a handsome wealthy leading man, a mystery man, who to believe??? As always a subtle movie reference, I love Lauren Bacall,,,,, You gotta read it to find out!!!!!!!

Murder Bay – Kobo “Very nicely done…Recommended.” —Library Journal No one noticed anything suspicious about the death of a wounded soldier at the height of the Civil War—not, that is, until almost a hundred years later. In 1957, a young Washington, D.C. police sergeant, Ben Carey, heads up a team of officers in a dilapidated house three blocks from the Capitol. Though Carey’s career is on the rise, his marriage is circling the drain, and as he spends more time at the office, he discovers there is something not quite right about this decaying old home. It harbors some dark secrets—connecting him to the long-dead soldier and others in ways he can’t understand. With his personal life in shambles, and forces from within the house vying for his attention, Carey casts reason aside and begins an investigation to uncover the truth about what happened in this haunted place. As he peels back the layers of history, he finds courage and love, but also deception, greed, jealousy, and murder. Twisting through time—between an America torn by Civil War and the prosperous 1950s—Murder Bay is a mystery that spans eras and the gulf dividing what can and cannot be explained.
